Remi Russo is a British-born, Italian ceramic artist that visits isolated experiences and shares them through surface texture and organic form. His philosophy originates from expressing the therapeutic nature of creating textures as a symbolic act of visibility, as he had to blend in from an early age. Wariness and over-protection have been his methodologies in enduring school. He had to adapt to a world where isolation became a layer of armour to protect himself and survive. While studying at university, his practice allowed him the freedom to reverse this, releasing trapped feelings and translating them through surface texture.
The raw tactility serves as a subtle language to convey his stories, becoming vitrified and preserved to ensure their longevity. His artworks transform into valuable artefacts. "My artefacts become an assemblage made to prove lived experiences in moments of my personal history." He offers shape and form to his amorphous process as consulting guidance to listen to his inner self. His inspirations are rooted in his Mediterranean culture, exploring the elegance of ancient Roman-Greco settlements. He translates the aesthetics of his artwork as if they were discovered through archaeological excavations. He takes pride in expressing his work as lost treasures from the past that are now brought to light for everyone to appreciate.
The colour palette is inspired by a dormant beauty of neutral earthy tones from his childhood, which represent purity and simplicity that is deeply resonated. He reconnects with his ancient philosophy and feels validated indulging it within his environment.
